Roadtrip 2018 dag 5

9 augustus 2018 - Krakau, Polen

Another long, easy morning of sorting out pictures and enjoying the breakfast. When we were ready, we left our hotel to explore the city centrum. By foot and by the tram we've reached it, and started exploring it - a big castle on the hill next to the river Wisla, old streets and hidden squares with gorgeous buildings in them, the main square that was full of life. It was really hot, so we kept eating ice cream along our way. After finding a nice city map, Marcel got a nice idea of visiting the Oskar Schindler's factory museum! It was quite far away so we decided to take a train there. The information about the train schedules at the train station was so complicated, that we had to wait in a long line at an information centrum to get some explanation of how we get there. When it was our turn, all the trains and busses we could take had left already, but we could still take a tram, so we did, and finally ended up where we have planned. It was still quite a walk to the place and we were dizzy from the heat, so we took a refreshing beer at a nice terrace. Afterwards we continued our journey, finding out that the museum was closer than we thought. At the museum we watched a movie about Schindler, trying to save as many Jews as possible, and then explored the museum. It was made incredibly - holes in walls as if they were bombed, pieces of cars and weapons, old signs and papers, reconstruction of a barrack, floor covered in little stones or made of leather…..there was so much to see and learn, adding up to what we saw yesterday, with Schindler being a glimmer of hope in all the madness. When we were done with our visit, we took a tram back to the city centrum where we had dinner and some more exploring of the main square. We closed off our evening with tasty radlers at the Hard Rock Café, and returned to our hotel. Now it's time to get some rest - tomorrow we're back on the road!
