After a breakfast with our host of the B&B we went off straight to the ferry to Sicily. Very soon we were on the island, and continued our journey on it's highways. Even though most of the highways led us through tunnels, we could admire the nature here. The rocky mountains around us were so different from those on main land - dry, orange in color and with almost no vegetation growing on them. What we didn't like about this place is the amount of trash laying all around the roads and parking lots, and all the fires caused by people and spreading because of the heat. After a few hours we reached our destination - Palermo. The traffic here was even crazier than in the rest of Italy. After checking in our hotel we went to explore this city. Just like on the way, we were surprised by the amount of trash laying in the streets. As we walked to the center it became a tiny bit better. We started by exploring the harbor, and then slowly found our way to historical sites. It took us lots and lots of walking! When we were satisfied with what we saw (a super detailed church and a palace, both belonging in UNESCO), we headed back to our hotel. Even during the night the air here was warm and heavy. Palermo is big, has some cozy streets and interesting buildings, but it could definitely do better with hygiene. Tomorrow we explore Sicily further!
