Roadtrip 2018 dag 11

After a short night because of a huge lightning storm and a filling breakfast, we left Minsk behind, heading towards Lithuania. We've been going through the highway and country roads again, looking at forests, fields and little ponds along the way. Suddenly Marcel went off the highway and onto a dirt road. We've been going through an old Belarus village, and the further we went, the worse our little road was getting. Soon we were shaking through holes and stones through fields, until the motorcycle started to slip around so much that I decided to walk on. The bike was stuck in mud for a moment, and while I helped getting it out while pushing, I got my suit all covered in dirt. After a little while we stopped, looked around at what seemed like tracks disappearing in the field, and a wall between Belarus and Lithuania nearby. There was also a bit better looking road right next to the wall. Marcel managed to get on that road, and soon we were back on the normal asphalt road, what I was super happy about. The border control was right in front of us. The check of Belarussian part took about an hour, of the Lithuanian part also some unexpected time because they couldn't understand how our Dutch motorcycle doesn't have an APK. Anyways, after everything we were driving on Lithuanian country roads, reaching the capital Vilnius and then going on the highway, where we got soaking wet from a rain storm. When we got on the last country road it was already dry. These were the last kilometers to my family!... As we've reached their village, we've made some pictures at the sign of it and drove on through the street to their home. And, a wonderful coincidence, my mom was about to leave with her car! As she told us later, she stopped to let the bike pass, not recognizing Marcel in his helmet and sunglasses. I had my helmet open, so as soon as she saw me, her eyes got big, she stared at us for a while, and then backed out to the garden, letting us in. Then lots and lots of hugs and kisses followed, from all the family members! It's so wonderful to surprise them like that. We've had dinner outside and have been talking a lot, later Marcel and me have walked the dog. Now we're washing our clothes and are preparing to sleep as we're tired of this adventurous day. Tomorrow we take it easy and enjoy this quiet, lovely stay!
