Roadtrip 2021 Frankrijk & Spanje dag 19

16 september 2021 - Paris, Frankrijk

We woke up in our stay in Paris, taking it easy, enjoying the hotel´s tasty breakfast. Then we made a plan what we wanted to see today and wasted no moment! Very soon we stood by Arc de Triomphe, and to our big surprise, it was all wrapped up, completely covered! Weell it was not THAT surprising, as we know this building-restauration curse of Marcel :) Still laughing about the Arc, we took a walk down the famous Avenue des Champs Elysees (oooohhh Champs Elysees... you hear it too?). It was big, full of expensive modern stores in the lower floors of old buildings. Soon we reached a park with some palaces, where we took a turn to the right, crossed the river Seine and walked all around the impressive Musee de l´Armee. Then we returned to our route and finished the walk though Jardin des Tuileries, finally reaching the Louvre. There we had some fun taking pictures, and I got asked by a Russian lady to film her dancing :) After that we had a much needed refuel of energy at the MC, and went to the Notre-Dame. It was good to see people being busy restoring it! Our route went further through the Pantheon and Jardin du Luxembourg where people were just relaxing and enjoying life. We stopped for a while to do the same, but not for too long as we had places to be at! We ended up at the catacombes of Paris, where we got ourselves last-minute tickets and explored some of the undergrounds. It was eerie and impressive to see skulls and other bones of people stacked up tidily, sometimes forming shapes like hearts and crosses. Turns out for sanitary reasons, bones of these people were massively dug from the graveyards and transferred to the undergrounds in the eighteenth century. After this amazing tour, we were up in the fresh air again, taking the metro to the Eiffel tower again. After a few daylight-selfies with it, we went to our last big thing to see - Basilique du Sacre-Coeur. It was super beautiful, surrounded by many people, with someone singing and playing the guitar to entertain. We gathered our strenght to climb, and above we could look far over the city. We closed the day dining at the MC and going back tot our hotel to rest. Tomorrow we continue the journey up North!

Geweldig, wat hebben jullie vandaag weer veel gezien.
De Arc de Triomphe wordt niet gerestaureerd, maar is ingepakt door Christo, dus kunst.
