Roadtrip 2021 Frankrijk & Spanje dag 8

We had a long, lazy second morning in Madrid. While Marcel was working on his computer, I even caught another hour of sleep. When we were ready, we took off to further discover the capital of Spain. First we were following the map, until Marcel realised that half of the ¨sightsee-buildings¨ are actually shopping malls of the company that made the map! Then we set our own way, trusting the map for some more obvious attractions and steet names. We wandered through bigger and smaller streets, getting lost and finding the way again, making pictures of all the interesting stuff along the way. The sun was burning stronger with each hour, coloring our skin red (ouch) (yes, we have sun cream, but still). We escaped it from time to time at our favorite eating places, grabbing a snack or an ice cream. A church and a pallace in one square, surrounded by cheerful music of an acordeon player, was especially impressive. To visit one building we took the metro especially far, and it was worth it - an enormous bull-fighting arena of 1929. To cite Marcel, not nice what they built it for, but they sure placed a spectacular looking building. After making a round around the arena, we returned to the centre, stocked up on water again and bought a whole bread, but not for ourselves.....we went to the park, and the same pond that we visited yesterday. I must say, the carps were very happy to see us again! Bread disappeared within minutes, followed by some cookies. We spent quite some time over there, just watching and feeding the carps. It was hard to wave them goodbye, but when we did, we explored the park further, slowly going towards the metro stop to bring us to the hotel. Gotta rest well as we ride again tomorrow!

Kms made today: approximately 16 on foot!
Weather: very hot and sunny. Street-thermometer showed 37 degrees in the sun during the afternoon.
