Roadtrip 2022 Denemarken dag 5

We had a relaxing morning in our cozy hotel room, packed our stuff and waved Aalborg goodbye. It was a very sunny and warm morning, and we enjoyed our ride through the countryside. There were forests, vast fields full of bright red poppies, and once a bird of prey came so close that we thought it would land on our heads. We´d stop from time to time to enjoy some cold drinks and snacks. Our road stretched somewhat along the sea, and we would see it appear once in a while. One of our breaks we held at a forest-y national park. There Marcel discovered a board which said that Tolkien, the creator of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, was inspired by Denmark´s landscape and history, and named some of his creations after it (Helms Deep)! We didn´t get much further when we spontaneously decided to stop again, because we saw some caste-ruins on an island connected to the main land by a thin streak of land. While we were exploring, it started to drizzle slightly. It wasn´t far until our destination anymore, though - city of Aarhus. We had a hotel booked at the heart of the city, and soon we went to discover its beautiful places. Aarhus had a lot of churches and other buildings with copper roofs turned green, cozy little streets, bars and shops full of people celebrating weekend. While having dinner at the Golden Gates restaurant, we celebrated Marcel´s birthday with Oreo cakes. We walked many kilometers, in search of unique buildings, parks portraying the old-time Denmark, salty waters at the harbor where different species of jellyfish were swimming. After getting tired from walking, we got some groceries at a local supermarket and returned to our hotel. It was a beautiful day, and a nice travel-birthday for Marcel!
