It was a wonderfully peaceful morning, with sleeping in and a breakfast in front of our house. Then we slowly packed, checked out and went riding! This time it was a ride through slower roads, crossing some towns on the way. We took it easy, and as we drove, it got more and more cloudy. Even if the sun was hiding, it stayed really hot. Soon we reached our destination, the stay of a few days - a camping in Mestre, just a few kilometers away from Venice! Checking in took a while, but we got an upgrade so we can't complain! After a short swim in the camping's (crowded) swimming pool we prepared and took a bus to Venice. We crossed the water through the only road to Venice, got out of the bus, and….we were there! After crossing the first big bridge we saw Venice with all it's charme - reminding a bit of the Netherlands - lots and lots of boats were going through the wide channel, with beautiful old buildings and cozy little restaurants on both sides. We planned to explore just one island, but by slowly moving through the narrow streets we ended up in the island of San Marco, in St Mark's square, which is the biggest tourist attraction here in Venice, wonderfully lit in the dark. But yeah, it was getting dark, so we tried to find our way back to the station, but this city is such a maze with all the tiny streets and bridges, it took us forever to find our way! Marcel said: "There are so many bridges here, maybe we can sleep under one?" :) We didn't have to do that, but we got back really late. Tomorrow one more day in Venice!
